All the Grace Needed

Low clouds bank the island
though the rain has stopped
and skies begin to clear.
Summer dried the ground
so the land drinks deep
these autumn showers
as trees begin their winter sleep.
I hasten to put away
all that must be stored,
my heart racing
with a quickened pulse
while quiet winter approaches.
I am going to root once more,
the leaves of summer falling
as I surrender to the cold embrace.
There is just this moment,
of sunlight through the clouds
and the gray sea shimmering,
that speaks of life
and all the grace needed
for the road ahead.

Don, the view expressed so well in your poem today is sensible. It’s true: we must appreciate what we have. Even if they include some lawyer friends we can name.

This one gave me full body chills. This is going to be a hard winter for me, and I love hearing that I’ll have all the grace that is needed to travel this difficult road.

Your poem today is way beyond sensible. In fact, it is so beautiful that it appears to have knocked some sense into one of your readers above. That reader has finally embraced his lawyer friends, Jay & me. He needs all the grace he can get!

  6. Andrew Shier says:

This is beautiful, brother. I walked out to our meadow today in the early morning with the horses and simply stood there. Like you, I felt there is just this moment.

    Well said Don…
Here we dwell at the turning point once again.. the inevitable and the urge to savor is strong

  8. Jude Blitz says:

Your poem points to the losing loosening of a surety I feel as the light lowers and lessens itself into autumn.
A sadness seems to always arrive, a letting go I never agree to.
