There are things I want to give you,
that I forget at the sight of your handsome face,
so mature yet tender to the world that’s coming.

No one can spare you heartbreak,
or bring the joy that you deserve,
so I sit here with my empty bowl,

filling it slowly, drop by drop,
for the days when you will thirst.

  1. So tender, so caring. Surely dedicated to someone very dear to you – a grandchild perhaps? Thank you, Don.

  2. In these precious words, I hear the repentant voice of forgiven complacency respecting one’s deepest longing to purely love and be fully loved in return.

  3. Tender, sweet, wise, and oh so loving… Thank you for the window into a love and care so profound. Beautiful, Don.

  4. So very beautiful and rich. When we fill our hearts with love and tenderness, we do fill the hearts in others with ‘In KIND NESS.’ Your cupid’s arrow strikes me deeply. Thank you.

  5. Whomever is the focus of this poem is blessed indeed. I have known many who have had bowls ready for me and I am thankful.

  6. Great love for you Don, and blessings on your birthday—you with the empty bowl replenished daily, and multiplied to overflowing so that my empty bowl may be filled because the miracle of the loaves and the fishes happens in this day; and so, for many of us, there is provision from your Great Net cast upon the waters day by day and week by week—and I have found, we have found, that this empty bowl is filled and shared beyond belief. It is so good to know you Don, know you as a Brother, as we share these nourishing words born of the Living Word. I am Ever Grateful for you. db
