The pause between night and day
suffers the wind, the rain,
the dark uncertainty,
to welcome the unfinished
with the grace of a bird.

Each day I go to this altar
emptying the night
bucket after bucket,
until I’ve space enough
for the morning.

  1. I love the image of emptying the night bucket. It takes me back in time before my time, but ever my time now each morning, until I can feel in myself the that space of inner dawn in me. Thank you.

  2. yes!…..and for me the bucket emptying has a practical role in my lying half awake in the pre-dawn. I rise, turn up the thermostat, and, in the dark I stagger into the bathroom. I return to my warm bed and listen to the dawn in deepest gratitude for Earth Mother’s dedicated consistency. Now, as I close, the Sun peaks over the East Ridge. Hallelujah.

  3. Simply brilliant and full of reverence and power. Showing up for the unfolding, not asking for something else.

    Bravo.

  4. That space in between, is the sacred silence of knowing. I am grateful for your ability to put it into words.
