The fire of the sun ignites the moon
to a golden lamp in the night sky.
We too thrive on solar light,
rising with the earth to father star.
Don’t let pettiness fool you,
we are made of the sun
and children of a holy world.

No longer taught the good road
we must find our bearings within.
Four forces are woven in our life forms,
four directions guide our fate.
Let us offer radiance
in this darkened night
with mercy as our counsel.

Though we speak in different tongues
we are but one upon the sacred earth.

  1. Don, in your rush to meet today’s poem deadline, you may not have given sufficient reflection to “find our bearings within”. I think here of Kevin D., for example. Can we trust such bearings?

  2. Don, furthermore, Kevin D’s bearings have been shaky ever since that pummeling you gave him in the boxing match. In those days, your poetic interest was in a right hook. You seemed a natural for law school.

  3. To know the sun within, radiance must be met with radiance. Lovely, Don. “Let Love radiate…”

  4. Don — This was worth the wait! No matter what that infidel Figel says. Thank God you weren’t corrupted by law school. And even if you’re a poet, it’s always nice to have a good right hook. Mike
PS: I really LOVE this poem (even though I am a lawyer).

  5. Yes, we SO NEED to come back to Holy Balance, stop “demonizing” one another just because we don’t AGREE with their “politics.” The human world has gone bat-sh*t crazy — but Sacred Sanity beckons all around us if we but look beyond our own Myopic Nose!

  6. Your words loom as large as the super blue moon we have experienced this week. Thank you, Don!

  7. The holy world that I know has enough Space within It that pettiness can easily leave its smallness in the far distance without.

  8. I must say, Tom Figel has a marvelous sense of humor!
I certainly didn’t know of your boxing days Don.
His comments led me to these thoughts from your recent poem:
When we know we are made of the Sun, and the 4 forces are woven in our life forms, then yes, we can listen and find our bearings within.
An insightful and gorgeous poem Don.
