I see your struggle,
the weight etched
on your face
as you bear up
under the gravity
known only to you.

The world pulls
while you strive
to gain altitude,
clawing at the trap
set on the day
you were born.

Don’t bother
with confession,
just reach down
to the glint of metal
at the bottom
of your soul,
the remembrance
of who you are
clear and shining

and with that key
unfasten the lock.

  1. WOW! Another stunner…like an arrow plunging deep into my soul. Thanks for “pointing out” the essence of our pain.

  2. The true source of where our strength and power resides. Thanks for the reminder this morning, Don

  3. That says it all don.
    The key is always there.
We are the ones who choose to take the risk to turn it and set ourselves free.
    Thanks

  4. Don, right on target all the way! I love your reference to the key, which surely is of purest gold. Thank you for speaking my heart and soul!

  5. Potent poem and painting. Exactly the process I find myself in. It is never, never too late to unfasten the locks of some restricting elements of cultural/religious upbringing with the golden key of remembrance. Thank you for this blessing!

  6. “Under the gravity known only to you.” What a wonderful expression of our ultimate solitude in the world.

  7. right on Don! exodus, movement of jah people, you got you own key, reach down, set the captive free, move

  8. Don, this is lovely as well as plaintive. The “metal at the bottom of the soul” is one of the striking descriptions. The pairing with the painting is strong, too. I’m only sorry for the hurt that led you to the compassionate writing.

  9. So much of the world is plunged in darkness and chaos.
But, ring the bells that still can ring. Forget your perfect offering. There is a crack in everything. That’s how the Light gets in.
Do not dwell on what has passed away. Nor, on what could have meant to be. (excerpted from Anthem by Leonard Cohen)

  10. Beautiful..reminding me of Rumi
Metal in chinese 5 element theory is the one that embodies grief, and respect and divinity. Often the road to knowing that divine connection involves grief and loss.
