We’re in December
and something is thawing
not just in the air
with blankets of fog
or in the rain soaked ground
but in the deepest cavern
where the unknown dwells.

Hardened ice slowly dripping
and what was locked in stone
begins to seep,
bearing the mystery
like a tiny foot reaching out
with the thinnest flesh
to break the shell
and announce itself
upon the awaiting world.

  1. .. and I Love The Breakthroughs!!! Thank you Don for this beautifully woven gift! The unknown, the mystery, and what awaits .. is ours to give.

  2. Emergence. Irrepressible presence. Slowly sounding your song silently, Don, just above a whisper… sibelants in every line express like life itself sounding strong & clear. In these days I’m catching up to what I hear, resting easy with perceiving more than I understand, tuning into turmoil & calm with equal measure, breathing above it all ultimately, pressing forth in the earth earthy, still a man of flesh but so much more. Don, I love the poetry of your life made flesh & the heritage you sing loudly without bluster.

  3. It is said that the spirit of Christ is stronger during this season because the people call it forth through tradition. A perfect setting for change. Somehow I don’t feel the delicacy perceived in your poem. I feel a power building that I have to keep in the mystery so I won’t give false direction to it’s coming. And yet I continue to call it forth.

  4. Thank you, Don, and fellow posters, for your passionate welcome of inevitable change and “break-opens.”. I connect the dots with simple acknowledgements of “daily miracles.”
