Cold comes the morning
with light rain
and gentle breeze.
Strong winds
have laid down
but will rise again,
the ocean stirred
by the growing pulse
of winter.
My animal body
layers on clothes,
circles the earth bed
to rest in darkness
while I stay above,
spirit talons
grabbing the high fir
for a view of the sea,
hungry for what
the tide will bring.
Reading of “Spirit Talons” with music by Jack White
Lovely!
Don, there is something ominous in this one, with your form at rest and your spirit up and alert. Thanks for the chance to read what you have written today.
Don, such a feel you give us for what it is like to live on an island! I hear the waves’ pulse, feel the breeze, the damp cold, knowing the winter wind will return. How important to keep one’s vision high, at the highest point possible, always ready and welcoming of what the tide may bring.
Thank you, dear friend.
Beautiful, Brother.
Don, I totally empathize with your words, as I feel exactly the same way about our wet, windy, gray island winter days and feel joy and wonder when the sun bursts through the clouds briefly to illuminate the sky, clouds and ocean with brilliant colors. I go out most days, unless we have gale force winds, to wait for that moment if and when it may come, my camera at the ready, offering my blessing to my world.
Don, this is a rigorous poem, I would say!
Beautiful flow from the opening lines and beautifully evocative imagery. I read faithfully but don’t often respond. Happy 2021!
The interplay of complimentary aspects of being making up the whole of life’s experience, rhythmically expressed. Thanks, Don.
Beautiful, Don!!
We share in that ferocity and wildness……………our spirit nature is one with the tide and the sea. I love it, Don!
“…resting in darkness with my spirit body grabbing the high fir for a view…”
Yes! this one speaks to my own paradox. Love it.
