The sound of the whale
burst from the channel
with a powerful AAHH,
its water spout blown
into the open sky,
then a loud gasp,
and rounding roll,
fluke up and curving
back into the cold,
solitary hunter
searching the deep
for what would rise
and glory in the day.
Thank you, Don. Even in community, one’s search for deeper nourishment is a solitary act. Not separate….yet solitary.
The power of deep searching is always a good thing in this man’s life. Thanks for this natural reminder.
Oh gosh Don, I have heard these sounds. I didn’t remember how fully I had actually heard whales as you describe. I feel your words, as a whoooofmmm pressure hitting my upper solar plexus and heart, all the way thru my back bone. I am so grateful for my past experiences, and also for your poem’s impact and re enlivening of my past good luck at sea.
Thanks Don, I will send this to my daughter, whose life work has been around the conservation of these creatures! She was awarded “Champion” by the UN Conference on Migratory Species.
“Searching the deep for what will rise”. I’ve used the intensity of these last few weeks to do just that and found the rising doesn’t occur without the searching.
Beautiful Presentation of ‘INTENSE LONGINlG’ ‘The active state of love’ for the origin!! An Inspiration!!
