My cask of praise empty,
the last words of thankfulness
consumed in the burnt forest,
I struggle to the altar
heart weary and without solace.

Your voice in the far distance
consoles the tedium of time,
yet without the turtle’s shell
I lay open to sorrow
and tides of disappointment.

I set my feet on ancient ground,
calling up life force from within,
and with courage of the hidden gods
form a prayer of silent truth
in the long-lost ways of Eden.

  1. Perfect, Don. Those gods are no longer hidden. We just have to pay attention. Thanks for unwrapping another beautiful present.

  2. I, like You, form anciently grounded prayers of silent Truth without ceasing. For my doing so summons, without pause, the otherwise hidden Life Force from within. Coraggio, Edenic comrade!

  3. I love Sandy’s image: a portrait of trouble on the horizon. In it I see your words of empathy and encouragement. In such times it is good to be aligned with the courage of the hidden gods

  4. I choose my controlled burn making open all the code that must be laid upon the Altar of time. A gift of ultimate exposure in an incarnation.

Thank you friend for leading the way.

  5. Don, this poem touches me like no other. I love the simplicity of the honesty contained therein. Life, as you know, is ours to respond to, to live in awareness of and gratitude is the doorway to what is within, the grace always there to be recognized. Thank you.

  6. “I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to “hide it” or “fade it” or “fix it”.”

You can, Don. And that makes your poetry safe, and healing.

  7. I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it, fade it, or fix it.

With your poetry Don, I don’t need to fear.

  8. I was deeply moved by this poem Don! Having the music as a backdrop throughout certainly enhanced the experience for me.
And that remarkable photo by Sandy just brought it all together! Truly an expression of beauty!
    Thank you both.

  9. prayer received … prayer answered, long before it was voiced …such is the wonder of the Edenic Way. i am ever grateful for you Don

  10. Don, we humans have been lost for a very long time, having lost touch with the ways of Eden. I feel such a heavy sadness when I dwell on this. Sometimes I find it helpful to focus on a quote from Buddha: “Radiate boundless love and peace towards the whole world.” It sure beats throwing one’s hands up in hopeless despair! Ronnie
