Body and mind
accept the peace
of slowing down,
as needing to do
retreats in silence.

Dismantling the throne of self
the makeshift altar of being
rises from the dark,
satisfied as the evening sky
with the joy of returning.

  1. I understand this deeply, as it describes so well the phase I have been experiencing since my recent retirement. Oh, yes, “what is real arises from the dark, satisfied as the evening sky aglow with the joy of returning.”

  2. Wonderful image, Don……return again to the One I AM….away from the frenetic ego strivings…as Rumi says, return again, over and over…..

  3. Thank you, Don. In the street elders joke about so much busyness, unable to properly retire. Here, you substitute different language for conscious ones, compassionately considering the letting of increase of Being, and less doing. My shadows seem relentless, because the fire of Love intensifies.

  4. I’m sure you are writing from intuition of a condition many others, not your experience. There is no slowing down when it comes to Don Hynes. Good thing. Our daughter and son-in-law are visiting, just talked about you and your mutual friends last night.

  5. How often we do busy work without taking the time to profoundly know ourselves in the mist of the garden. Note to myself, never forget to ponder in the beauty of the gift. I love the inspiration of your beautiful words, Don.
