Fallen like a broad maple,
I lie stretched on wet ground,
giving my life
to bleak autumn cold.
Sinking into dark earth
among the vanquished,
I linger in the underworld
for a signal to rise,
yearning for the touch
that shaped me imperfect,
to walk once more
among the enlightened,
lifted from the fallen earth.

Reading of “Lifted from the Fallen” with music by The Deslondes
Don — Wonderful poem today. And a great photo by Lou MacKenzie. If we’re older & still vertical, we’ve all been “lifted from the fallen” at some point(s) in our lives. And once lifted, the brightness of once more “walking among the enlightened” can be stunning. Thanks for sharing this.
The poem has tight writing. The photo is beautiful.
With You, Don, my full-blown yearning to ‘walk among the ‘Enlightened’ is what continually draws my heart and mind to the purely unfallen Field where my Own ‘enlightenment’ can radiantly meld with the Universal Light of Life Itself! Hence, the ‘burden’ IS Light!
Most excellent, Don.
Poignant, Don. Suspended.
Stunning photo. I feel invited by your words to rise with the sun. Thank you.
