High in the gray sky
tall firs sway in a wind
not felt beside the pond,
abandoned by geese and ducks
even in this mild winter.

I plod along the empty path,
and watch branches above
wave in somber colors,
as I wave to the lives I’ve lived,
gone like the geese of winter.

I wonder what will come on this wind,
if I will rise like evergreen sap
for another spring, another pulse of life,
while I search through inner darkness
for the knowledge of a seed,
and the spark of love to see it through.

  3. Don, Thank you for this poem. I’m putting it on my nightstand next to the other. I have a tiny fir tree there. Little darlin’, its been a long cold lonely winter. Here comes the sun.

  4. Beautiful poem, Don. The seasons test us, make us reflective; but why is it that we so often forget that we are here on assignment?

    Blessings, my Brother,

  6. Don, I just read your poem aloud to Xavier and it filled me with such rich sustenance. Words just don’t do justice to the abundant feelings of hope and possibility this poem brings. You continue to be a deep blessing in my life, friend.
