Clouds descend on the island
with the sound of foghorns
and cries of geese.

Somewhere hidden above
sun and stars continue,
while below I’m motionless
as the silent trees.

Fledgling in the nest
of great mother,
I sip at her knowledge,
growing feathers
for the flight to come.

  1. Sacred Synchronicity strikes again, dear Poet Brother! “Growing Feathers” arrived today just as I was reviewing a very personal “Eagle story” I’d experienced a few years ago. What are the chances? APPARENTLY 100% !!! Creator must be giggling, eh? 🙂

  2. “Silent motionlessness” describes the innately bouyant perch amid Life’s vast Ocean of Motion on which a fledgling floats, while it contemplates its very first flight above the sea. After a temperate time of Stillness, its Great Earth Mother (the same One as ours) gently whispers, “Before you fly away, baby bird, be sure to settle your nest at home”. I myself am still, after decades, settling my ever-burgeoning “nest at home”! All the while, I live and love every time of Stillness entailed therein. Onward in Oneness, Prodigious Don!

  3. Beautiful imagery, Don, enfolded by one of Puccini’s most heart-full arias. I love “growing feathers for the flight to come”.
