The swelling windless tide
eases into the cove,
to quench the gravel beach
in a slow languid laze.

Seagrass barely stirs,
even the crows are quiet,
as the sun kisses down
on the driftwood earth.

“Don’t hurry from your perch,”
the Goddess whispers,
“savor the warmth
on the old sleeping rocks,”

as she spreads her summer dress
across the shimmering water,
holding the land and sea
in a saltwater embrace.

  1. Just beautiful, with a luscious mood and palette. Perfect for this gentle Sunday morning. I feel wrapped in that saltwater embrace. Thank you, Don.

  2. Yesss Don—you know I love the shimmering sounds of sibilants serenely expressed in this exquisite expression—masterful!

  3. Don — Sharing your poetic peek at the shimmering Water Goddess’s whisperings, I can sense Her closer than hands and feet! That shared sensing is voiced by a modern-day author named ‘Starhawk’: “The Goddess does not rule the world; She IS the world! Manifest in each of us, She can be known internally by every individual, in all Her magnificent diversity.”

  4. All the earth stands still as the substance of Her gathers in the eternal beauty of our saline knowing in a moment of timelessness .
