From this day forward
the landscape unknown –
no map, no signpost,
no tradition repeats.

Earth herself a carapace
shaken and shed
by inner truth,
into the embrace
of the stars.

  1. Wow. What two powerful parts to this poem! Two distinct foci that interlock beautifully and profoundly. And “From this day forward” is…somehow…a perfect opening line.

    Nice listening, Don.

  2. First, thanks for a trip to the dictionary. Just seeing the definition of carapace helped shed old shells. Second, as I am made of star stuff, I embrace the earth. Third, in doing so, I create my own guidance from within. And fourth, anybody got any surfboard wax I can use?

  3. Nice, Don. Simple, straightforward with layers of meaning. On the east coast the earth reminded us, yesterday, of her ability to at least rearrange the planetary carapace from within, always in the embrace of the stars.
