I awoke to the moonrise
in morning darkness
with amber light on the sea.

Something in me
longed to awaken,
to visit the beauty
few would witness.

Daylight comes
and I share the sun
but keep the night glory
hidden in my soul.

Rabbits and geese
tear at spring grass
while I feed on moonlight,
savored in the silence
of this quiet solitude.

  1. Just beautiful…! I relish these images, and feel nourished. There is something so tender in the night glory here portrayed — profound, sacred, treasured. Thank you, Don.

  2. Thank you Don. I share you love of the moonlight. It fills our home as the moon rises. It has been waking me up for a while now.

  3. Your opening lines are spell-binding, Don! And the hard rhyme that links “sea” and “me” distills the meaning for this reader, at least.

With amber light on the sea, the ocean rhythms carry me.

    Thank you.

  4. True nourishment of the soul. In the quietness of the sacred moment, the light of nourishing feeling and elevated thought bring us into the present moment, where true beauty is born. Thank you Don for bringing me into the present moment.

  5. Don — There is something mystical about a full moon rising over a large body of water. I am hooked on going over 3 blocks from our home to Lake Michigan & watching a full moon rise when the night sky is clear. Right here in the heart of urban Milwaukee! Your poem brings back a flood of memories for me. Thanks for sharing.

  6. The richness of the moment captured all of our souls.
    Home is a beautiful place🙏
    Thank you Don❤️

  7. Don, yes, a good time of day and your poem recommends a good use of it. Thanks.

  8. The moon was yellow, and the night was young.
A smile brought us together, and I was wond’ring whether
    We’d meet again someday.
The moon was yellow, and a song was sung.
That vocal inspiration gave me the inclination
    To give my heart away.
Here we are! Is our romance to continue?
Will it be my luck to win you.
May I look that far? Ah! My love is
Ah, my love is yellow and the night is young.

  9. How beautiful, magical, peaceful are your words, and the photo you have chosen to accompany them! Bless you. Thank you.
