There are terrors
that restrain the heart
with iron fence
where open land
once graced the sky.

You see it in a child’s eyes,
feel it in your chest
when theft becomes an option.
It’s too late to blame,

only time for the music you can make,
your dispatch from the front
opening the heart against all odds
to marshal the forces of kindness.

  1. An open Heart informing my mind is my connection to my body and all creation. Thanks for your Kind sharing Don.

  2. Hey Don. Love it. And what is real poetry if not dispatches from the front! Love letters to humanity and nature from the trenches.

  3. The heart .. our great transformer, creating all things into kindness. What a beautiful world is longing to be transformed.

  4. Thank you, Don, and each commentator. An entire civilization (Atlantis, maybe more) collapsed for loss of unselfish love, namely kindness, and compassion, that forgiveness and gratitude might increase.

  5. Yes, I like the quote, more than a little: “let not your heart be trouble…”
The Heart is our “compass in troubled waters.”
