When the sun goes down
and the sky grows dark
the trees begin
their quiet conversation.

They picked up the thread
when the two legged
grew silent, each night
speaking to their neighbors
and sharing the news
of home and distance.

The language of the trees
ancient and soothing,
their melodious voices
bass-toned and resonant
with green life and birdsong.

I stand with them
in the night forest,
looking up to far-off light,
feeling the comfort
of the stars rooted
deep into the earth.

  1. Ooh, I do resonate with this one, Don. You know how I feel about trees!

  2. Altogether majestic & full-spectrum free—brilliant blend of voice & music, informing words with resonant meaning & deep-lived feeling… Thank you, Don, for the unadorned vastness of your heart & creativity…

  3. Your word-created images, your voice speaking for and with the trees — my, Don, this just causes me to breathe extra deep, and take in those low bass tones and resonant notes. Those magnificent tree spirits… I love them too. Thank you for this night journey, your wisdom and your heart is a beacon in the dark. I am anchored to those stars you point to, and I rest in this expanse. I love this piece.

  4. Don…years ago I took a 2 year Shamanic Apprenticeship. One weekend, I was walking in the woods and literally SAW the light threads of the trees connected to each other, pulsating. I will never forget that image.

  5. (,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,golden silence,,,,,,,,,,,,,) Your word nicely resonates in calm attunement. Blessings.

  6. A wonderful creation, Don. Your words blend so nicely with the music as background. The beautiful imagery backed by a resonant melody. Great paring. Thank you.
