Slow to awaken,
slow to follow bear
from winter’s cave,

as redbuds leaf
and plum trees flower
the deep earth signal.

Hungry for light
I stagger into the morning,
repentance on my mind.

Wandering beneath
the flowering trees,
bathed in forgiveness,

I hear the far off calling
but right here
I’m close enough to God.

  1. You, Don, (along with Art-eyed Sandy) have herein captured the often staggering reality of Life’s Light shining in You, Me & Each of Us. Such abides closer than any Earth-roaming hands or feet ever can: Thus, close enough to be awakened to, whenever one wishes.
Thank You, Don, as Always & Onward.

  2. We must be inhabiting Bear’s Cave together, Soul Brother. I can’t get out of my soft, warm bathrobe today… I’m close enough to GOD.
    Love & Blessings, Sister “T”

  3. Sitting at my computer with a purring cat in my lap, warmed by the vibration, comforted by the sound. I am close enough to God.

  4. Brilliant Don, and right in line with the Big Flow, staggering, bathed in forgiveness, and in this present moment close enough to God, and also knowing that being slow to awaken and staggering into the morning cannot prevail through my days, and that far off calling draws us all upward and onward to the next perfect present moment, walking upright and walking swiftly, being God in action in this human form.

  5. “…beneath the flowering trees, bathed in forgiveness.”
    Very nice, Don.

  6. Thanks for the shout out !❤️ I love this I feel like a Bear in the morning poem. I can’t imagine what you ever done to feel so repentant and to need so much forgiveness —are there bodies buried at Stillmeadow?🤪I hereby absolve you! Now go forth and continue to dance with Bear🐻
