In early dawn hours
the moon sets in the west,
Venus alight in the eastern sky.

Perhaps I’m foolish to become so joyful
yet I hold the morning dear
like the Navajo who sing
each day into being
with prayers of thanks.

However far we stray
heaven will light the sky,
to brighten the darkness
and call us back to beauty.

  1. Don, the lawyers probably will find something to critique but your good spirit finds agreement here. Thank you for the well-crafted thought and the choice of Lou’s photo.

  2. Don — This lawyer finds nothing to critique in your short, beautiful poem. It was a. welcome antidote to all the venom one reads about in the Sunday morning papers. You are not foolish to become so joyful at the dawning of a new day. [Some PR guys are foolish, but not you!] let us all be thankful for all of the beauty in life that surrounds us.

  3. Thank you, Don. I have tucked the last four lines away in my file of possible words for a round.

  4. The invitation is always there – to call us back to beauty – every morning upon awakening. When answered, what a happy start to the day!

  5. If ever I confuse my first Love I am drawn back to the grace of true beauty all around.Simplicity in gratitude.
    Thank you ,Don.

  6. Thanks for your paean to the morning, Don. We named our youngest daughter Amber Dawn as a tribute to the morning sky. Both bring promise to the day.

  7. Don, I liked “the Navajo who sing each day into being with
    prayers of thanks.” Wise practice!
