Clear Water

I go where nothing’s bitter
and nothing sweet,
only clear water
below the mountain,
cleansed by stone
in dark caverns,
given to the light.

Wow. Sometimes the very short poems are the most powerful. “Clear Water” does not allow saying it in other words–my mind is stopped. Before thought, said the Scholastics, is simple apprehension. Beautiful.

Very nice. It reminds me of Cave Creek in Oregon where the creek comes out of the top of the mountain at the cave and flows down the mountain. The only place I’ve ever seen golden trout. The family was camping there in about ’92.
