By Inner Light

Despite the storm
and rough unanswerable seas
with night sky like smoke and vapor
we take our bearings
from the pulse of tide
perceiving signals amidst a fury
knowing from within
where the stars are pointing
moving forward by inner light.

blessed be the heart as sexton to navigate us through the dark waters…
it appears to be a skill that is earned through a certain effort and diligence never the less …

  2. Bill Dare says:

Navigation by Mother… always the best Journey. This ol’ sailor loves the Brilliance of your Reflection in his long glass.

  3. Eilish says:

This poem speaks to my heart.I am a young student, learning to trust the “inner light” with each passing year.

  4. Lloyd Meeker says:

    Beautiful poem, Don.

In my experience, moving forward by inner light is a life-long discipline rather than a skill I once longed to attain. The imperfection of my listening, no matter how sincere, keeps me attentive in the moment.

  5. Rodger Hyodo says:

“the imperfection of my listening” i can relate — as that imperfection is the raw fuel behind the curiosity animating my learning.

  6. Maria Frid says:

Attuning our senses to our inner light amist these stormy conditions takes diligence & a large love for the stars, the tides & the One who created all things. Thank you for your beautiful poem!

  7. Robin Bryant says:

Don . .by diving into your poem, I strongly feel the ever present power of my inner light increased, welcoming the storms to dance with me, within
my movement of presence. Thank You.

  8. As a high desert dweller, the only pulse of tides I know is in my own blood. It’s enough for now because it means I’m alive and willing to take the next step. Hiking the rough terrain that surrounds nowadays, my inner light keeps me safe from wylie coyotes, tumbleweeds, and prairie dog holes of life.
