Autumn drapes the coast
with rain and heavy cloud.

The yielding land,
eased by cool air, drinks
the sky’s soft blessing.

I feel the rootward pull
with daylight fading,
evening drawing close.

Nurtured by the dark,
my soul embraces night
in dreamlike mystery,

while I weave an autumn tale,
offered to the ebbing tide,
claimed by winter seas.

  1. Beautiful, with soothing music. Autumn’s mystery surrounds your words. Thank you, Don.

  2. Don — You hit the trifecta for me with this one. Diana Krall music, my favorite season & your beautiful, poignant poem. Thanks for sharing.

  3. Likewise, Don, I feel the pull, yet ease, that surrendered yielding can embrace: Dreamlike mysteries nurtured in the midst of ineffable Newness yet to come.
