The sound of the tide
on the ebb like a river.
Gulls feeding, crows
calling nearby.

With only so many
mornings to be alive,
the sounds and smell
of the sea bring joy.

The earth has made
a place for me,
the wanderer.
Thankful to the bone

I reach out
to the trees and flowing water,
letting the woven nest
of place hold me,

sweetly, like the pale
blue of a robin’s egg.

  1. I love the unfoldment of our lives and how your poems portray the beauty of that unfolding…..Thank you Don!

  2. “…letting the woven nest of place hold me…” I love this line, Don. For me, it speaks to living in the Now, where I create “place” in this life.

As always, I deeply appreciate your work and your contributions to beauty and grace in my life.

  3. Yes, I feel the love of this earth’s acceptance…………so beautifully put! Thank you, Don!

  4. “thankful to the bone’ and “sweetly, like the pale blue of a robin’s egg,” and the sound of your voice, Don, have blessed me this day.

“With only so many mornings to be alive” brings me home to this moment of breath and communion.

  5. Don, on those mornings, you are a heck more alive than most of us. Thank God for that, and thank you for another lovely reflection.

  6. To find solace is to experience sense of place. I am reminded of my youth, living walking distance from the ocean in Brooklyn, New York, and how much I loved the solitude and peace of the shore waves. The sound and feeling resounds in my heart as you read your words. Thank you Don.

  7. The immensity of this great mysterious living landscape vivid to my inner ears and eyes—sound and scent and seeing unveil anew as spirit speaks through your voice this word of re-creation—morning has broken—tender and exquisite Don
