Quietly the sea rests
between ebb and flow,
still water before the next tide.
The sun rises, golden light
through banks of blue-gray cloud,
the passing sound of eagle’s wings
and far off the hoot of a sea bird,
gathered in early light
to shape the new day forming.
Like water waiting upon the moon,
you may give way to the broad heaven,
let go the field of opposites
for the purity of the morning
and become malleable once more
to the Shaper’s hands.
The book is open to write your pages,
what you want to leave of yourself
in the great story.
Your quiet like the resting sea,
the arc of your wings over water,
the depth of your waiting
like the endless stone shore
and your fire, kindled like the sun
to burn and light the waking world.
Write this with your one life
and sign it with your blood.

I love this. Thank you. It beautifully says what is in my heart at this time!
Don did you really hear the sound of a eagle’s wing beat??
If so, what good fortune.
I usher in each morning from my deck. Brave rabbit courageously enters a patch of clover a few feet from me. And Raven and Crow arrive to a nearby power line. The city slowly awakens a few miles. If those folk only knew what welcomes them…
Exactly! Positive attitude is the intelligent attitude. You expressed the idea beautifully.
Don — I am speechless (but to write these few words) and breathless, in the stillness and intensity that is here unfurled with grace — and I am grateful.
Thanks Don.
Signed!
Don…the key is letting go of the field of opposites! Lovely poem…..
There really is something out there, and in here … in the infinite … reaching me with renewed intensity and calling me at unfathomed depths. And it feels inexorable, multi-faceted, and ultimately wholesome. It must increasingly rule my day.
Powerful. This would be good to read at all major life junctures.
Thank you, Don. It is an eloquent and awesome challenge to all, especially those, like me, working on the final stanzas.
I write my story in these pages; respect, love, and compassion for all things living. The entire web of life. I choose to yield once more to the shaper’s hands. Thank you for your wisdom.
Very inspiring! Well done my friend.
In this prayer, you honor us all by witnessing what is required of us to live a life of meaning and depth. Your words are resonant and inspirational. Thank you, Don.
This one gave me goosebumps!
…to burn and light the waking world… Yes, she said, Here I am. Delicious, stirring, humbling poem. Beautifully said, Don. Perfect. Thank you, my friend.
Wow. Don touched deep in my heart
Powerful. I agree with Maria!
Our feet solid solid upon the earth,
Our heads in a wondrous and pristine heaven.
Wow, WAAAY too long since I’ve been here, Don – so glad I am now.! Caught up on the last few months I’ve missed, and am cherishing the satiation it provides, as well as mourning the absence of my own Muse…As always, a nudge to remember what is truly important.
I love this.
