The feeling comes with morning,
first light creasing the horizon,
quarter moon high
and the star cast of winter
bright in the still dark west.

The intimacy of this hour
lives through the day,
feeding through travail
the nutrient of patience,
making sure I don’t forget

the life began long ago
alive in the night sky,
speaking like a lover
with the soft assurance
of dew, cold air
and the openness of dawn.

  1. Thank you, Don, for writing and for sharing. So often your words express what I am experiencing and I often do not realize it until your words tell me. This is one of the reasons you are high on my What I’m Grateful For prayer today.

  2. Your large heart encompasses Life so beautifully. Thank you always for your many ways of transforming visuals (often from nature) into the heartbeat of our souls.

  3. Tis the season in which many cool soft assurances will bring me back to my childhood standing out in the weather with my eyes closed tightly, head back and mouth open with tongue tasting the gently landing flakes.

  4. Thank you, Don. My sense of assurance springs–from patience, yes–and where it dwells in my heart of contentment.
