There’s always time for work
getting done what the clock demands,
with the tireless cogs ticking forward
as the creek settles from spring flush
and clouds clear to a spray of blue.
In the river there’s only movement
so I pause here in the rushes
keeping an eye on the clouds,
letting the blue settle into my eyes
before I dive into the flow,
only a pause, yet it means everything.
So insightful, Don……..caused me to pause to take a deep breath! Where would we be if the heart didn’t take a rest between each beat? Thanks brother.
Oh, yeah… that’ll work!
Ah, yes…the holy pause…I love it!
Absolutely, even if it is just a minute to reflect on the blue or the green will propel us into the rush of creative movement centered in the wonder of it all. You are an inspiration, Don. I am grateful for your insight wrapped in beautiful prose.
Simply comforting…it takes me to the little cabin we have in the woods…such a shack on the river…ahhh…Peace! Thank you.
‘yet it means everything’………..since it’s the real food for the soul. Thank you, Don, so beautiful…………….
Without that essential pause, we can’t sense the magic. Thanks, Don.
Winnie the Pooh, the well-known sage and philosopher, taught me about the pause and the magic therein. He said it’s not the eating of the honey that is best, it is the moment right before the honey is eaten. I’ve carried the pause of stillness with me for years and still savor the magical moment when the flow is honored.
Oh yes, the golden moment. thanks Don I love your poems
Thank you, Don. Pauses are the length they need to be, not glued to a stopwatch. Pregnancy is a long pause between passion and birth, but an active one within the womb. Spring and autumn are seasonal pauses between passionate growth in the heat of summer and the long sleep of winter. But, every pause is a gathering of some kind of force for love’s expression. ONLY a pause, the poet says…..hahahaha. Wow!–how inspiring…
Thank you ,Don. Yesterday while reading on the porch here at Mary’s Woods–the one between the Bistro and Cere- something interrupted and I looked up.I saw a magnificeent sky blue with light, flowing clouds motioning me to”see” the close, loving presence of the universe and God. The pause that really refreshed! I love your way of expressing it Kay O
The pause that refreshes… 😉
Pausing now…..
Just got back from a long afternoon up Fall Creek, and this poem reflects what a “creek break” can do for your mind. Gary Snyder said the sound of the water “purified my ears.”
You remind me of Blake’s opening verse in Auguries of Innocence.
To see the world in a grain of sand
And heaven in a wild flower…
Thanks Don.
Be still and know….
Thanks Don.
I took a nap this past weekend during our Gathering of the Tribes… made all the difference. Thanks for this appreciation of pausing, Don.
In teaching people to breath correctly, I discovered that so many do not understand the natural physiological pauses between the inhalation and expiration; that expiration is twice as long as inspiration. Pause, take your time; it’s all your’s.Bring it to consciousness. Going back to the natural essences of how life created us. These are so many moments and ways to take that Pause.
I am greatful for this reminder. Thank you Don. Those pauses do mean everything.
