Into the wordless silence
I spirit-walk the new day,
bare feet to ground,
eyes open in early light.

Shaped and shriven
by the quiet earth,
I take my place
among the newborn,

awake to the world
while others sleep.

  1. Don, I think this is a poem about tottering home after a night of revelry, just in time to see the sunrise before falling into bed.

  2. Don — I love this poem. I wish I were an early riser like you. But still, at 78 about to turn 79, I’ve been “shaped & shriven” by the quiet earth & the vicissitudes of life. Older. As I am, I still manage to take my place among the newborn. Full of wonder & very grateful. Thanks for sharing this verse. Mike
