First light breaks,
winds rise
to rustle the sea.

The sun sings awake,
and over the broad expanse
life stirs its deep green bed,

as I turn over
to the sound of crows
and surging tide.

My silent joy
spills across the earth
in waves of grass,

alive with breath
this tender dawn,
awake as a bird
in wonder.

  1. Don, I notice you are turning over and probably going back to sleep as the crows and your joy go about their business. I am seeing Mike Mc. for lunch tomorrow (on me, so he will show). I will be able to help him understand the subtleties in what you sent all of us today.

  2. So Don, I can readily imagine you, me, and innumerable others ‘turning over’ much more often than every day’s Dawn, what with each human’s collection of new (metaphorical) ‘leafs to turn over’, while days and years of Life spill in waves across our Earth-times. A verse of old says, “To everything there a season, and a time for every purpose …” Hence, I’m All FOR Living Life on Purpose Now!

  3. Don — Your verse today is a wonderful testament to the idea of expressing gratitude each morning for being alive & able to enjoy the beauty & mystery of creation. Thanks for sharing.

  4. Yes the crows ushering up the rushing tides lets us move through full submergence into freedom once again.
