Holy night
quiet darkness
half-moon glimmers
lapping tide

Wind-drift
wave tossed
fear dissolved
water guides

spirit rises
open hearted
weightless freedom
soul unbound

sunlit morning
sacred landscape
green leaves flutter
hallowed ground.

  1. Don — I enjoyed this a lot. Kind of like a Haiku, with its syllabic beat. I tried to identify the pattern: 3-4-4-3; 2-2-3-3; 3-4-4-3; 4-4-4-3. Like Japanese Haiku, your poem is both beautiful & subtly hypnotic. Thanks for sharing! Mike
PS to Figel: Pretty good for a lawyer, huh?

  2. Only in the space I am willing to hallow into break through can I be worth the glory I am meant to hold and uplift.

  3. Lapping Tide – WATER. Wind-Drift – AIR. Open-Hearted Soul Unbound – EARTH. Sunlit Morning – FIRE! Elementally Complete is the Hallowed Ground that You so skillfully depicted here, Don. Hence, Complete am I who, when reading, embrace your 32 words in kind! Thanks to You, as Always!

  4. Don, who is whispering to Mike McCauley? Does he receive an advance draft so he can go to the library and find some learned critique he can use as his own? His observation about haiku, no doubt his own, is very good. – Love, Tom

  5. Lovely piece, Don. It’s the very cool rhythm I love. For me, I feel it like ocean waves lapping the shore line on a calm day – regular but not symmetrical. The perfect current for conveying your message. I stand on this shore, and listen again…
