Dark night beauty,
densely clouded skies,
rain showering the metal roof.
I rest in this comfort,
alien to bright lights,
discordant sound,

retreat to where grasses wave,
leaves speak in trees.
From this borderland I broadcast
to the animal within you,
wild for the wind and sea.

If you hear me, signal the stars
with hunger strong enough
to lift your soul, in silence steeped,

that dark night beauty find you.

  1. Don — Quite a combo today. Your beautiful poem, Lou MacKenzie’s evocative photography & BB King’s sultry blues music. Thanks for sharing.

  2. “…and retreat to where grasses wave, leaves speak in the trees.” This is very evocative. Nice work, Don.

  3. Don, the phrase “Dark night beauty” is itself great and then leads to a world of other strong descriptions. Thanks.

  4. This beautiful description of what is born in all of to take shape on dark nights struck a wonderful chord in me. It is soothing for the soul.

  5. I honor the less traveled passages you fill out in closer communion with the All that truly is coming of age now.
