I rise and fall
the ancient way,
from root to leaf
and back to earth;
the road I tread
these autumn years,
without desire
or fear of death.

Gone with summer
the need to shine,
I seek the earth
like fallen leaves.
Birds fly high,
owl hunts night,
my wings fold
as deep roots call.

To be released
one winter day
from weight of snow
and what must pass,
I lift and go
a weathered hawk,
dark night stars
to guide me.

  1. Don, I love this piece. I feel the rhythm of the lyric echoed in one’s breath, and the walking pace of one at peace. And I love the topic, the naturalness of being one with Life’s seasons. I can see the weathered hawk lifting – gorgeous. Thank you, my friend.

  2. Each season in humble servitude shows its way to our next great venture. As autumn gently shows us her bright regalia to portend deeper meaning in Source of the everlasting.

  3. This Poem evokes a melancholy and peacefulness in my heart.
Accentuated by reverent music that perfectly captures the essence of the beautiful photo by Anne.
The seasons and cycles of our lives.
    I appreciate you Don.
