When I Awoke

The night so long
it seemed the darkness
would never fade,
the light on the roses
and soft glow of the trees
only a memory.
When I awoke
I went to the window
and looked out to see
pink and white blossoms,
rain drops like luminescent bells
hanging from the dark cherry wood.

Such a sublime and simple image, Don, capturing the sheer joy of the morning after a long darkness. This is today. This gift of the sweetness of light, and the innocent happiness that brings, is my heart’s song this morning. Thank you.

Christmas imagery on Easter—why not? Two Christian holidays intertwined with a “pagan” nature aubade—love it!

Thank you Sandy. You reminded me I had fallen for my own imagery. I loved the “Christmas bells” image, but have changed Christmas to “luminous” which is more congruent with the poem and doesn’t lose the meaning. I appreciate your comments.

“When I Awoke” bespeaks my heart’s first inbreath this morning, as it is beckoned to the window of Spirit to behold in surrrender the first dew drops of an ever-new Creative Day. Thank you, Don, for your humble and kind witness thereof …
