Sound of Breathing

There are days
when the sky breaks,
the blue that rushes in
a deep river of faith
then days when fog
holds tight to the river
and the smell of corruption
lies down on the world.
Today is one of those days
as I drop below to the peace
beneath the city,
under the basements,
the pipes and channels,
down where the furthest root
reaches the sound
of the old earth breathing.

Thank you Don for the nine years of sharing soul food, this heart beat that you see and hear and feel. There is something to be said for a steady beat, which links and then creatively challenges us to return the favour, with words! You rascal! This is enjoyable and it is good work.

Soon the light will win but for a few more days I’m honoring the dark’s grip on each day ending so quickly. It is here and now that I feel closest to the ancient drum beat of the breathing earth.
